Norman Doidge, MD, FRCPC
Norman Doidge

Norman Doidge, MD, FRCPC is on Faculty at the Department of Psychiatry, University of Toronto, and Research Faculty, Center for Psychoanalytic Training and Research, Columbia University Department of Psychiatry, New York. He is formerly head of the Assessment Clinic and the Psychotherapy Center at the Clark Institute. He is author of The Brain That Changes Itself, chosen by the journal Cerebrum, from among 30,000 neuroscience books, as the best general book on the brain.

The Globe and Mail describes Dr. Doidge as “a master at explaining science to the rest of us.” He is a New York Times best-selling author and has been featured on many television and radio programs around the world.

The documentary film of his best selling book, The Brain’s Way of Healing, aired on CBC’s Nature of Things in October of 2016 and focused on neuroplasticity’s next step and how healing the brain using non-invasive methods is resulting in improvements and cures.

Renée Vinett, RN, LLB, CS

Renée is a partner at Howie, Sacks & Henry, whose practice is devoted to fighting for the rights of injured accident victims and their families in a wide range of personal injury matters. She has successfully conducted numerous Trials and Hearings before the Ontario Superior Court of Justice and the Financial Services Commission of Ontario. In addition to being a lawyer, Renée has been a registered nurse for over 30 years with experience in disability management in both the United States and Canada. Her medical knowledge and legal expertise enables Renée to approach each case from the central perspective, that it is her clients’ needs and long-term quality of life that is paramount. She holds memberships with legal and professional associations, for which she often chairs and lectures at their continuing legal education programs. Renée is also a member of the College of Nurses of Ontario and a Certified Specialist in Civil Litigation.

John Welton, BA, CIM

John Welton joined Henderson Structured Settlements LP as a partner in 2011. John is a graduate of McMaster University and is also accredited as a Professional Manager by the Canadian Institute of Management. He also holds the Certified Structured Settlement Consultant title as issued by Notre Dame University. He has extensive experience in both Property & Casualty and Life Insurance claims. John has worked as an executive for a number of Canada’s leading insurers and has provided consulting services within the North American insurance claims economy. At Henderson Structured Settlements LP, John provides clients with structured settlement advice, claim settlement support, and education. John also coordinates Henderson’s annual charitable golf event – “Making the Links” which supports Hamilton Health Sciences, SCIO and OBIA. John currently sits on the Board of Directors for Hamilton Health Sciences Foundation.

Lynda Thompson, PhD, CPsych, BCN
The ADD Centre® & The Biofeedback Institute of Toronto®

Psychologist Lynda Thompson has a background in Applied Psychology with a doctoral dissertation (1979) concerning hyperactive children. Since 1993 she has specialized in neurofeedback interventions. She is co-author with renowned pediatrician William Sears of The A.D.D. Book (1998) and with her husband, Dr. Michael Thompson, of The Neurofeedback Book (2003; Second Edition 2015). She has authored numerous journal articles and book chapters on combining neurofeedback and biofeedback for the treatment of various conditions, including post-concussion syndrome. She is the co-recipient, with her husband, of the Lifetime Achievement Award (2010) of the Biofeedback Federation of Europe and the Distinguished Scientist Award (2016) of the Association of Applied Psychophysiology and Biofeedback (AAPB).

Andrew Baker, MD, FRCPC
St. Michael's Hospital Head Injury Clinic

Dr. Baker is the Chief of Critical Care and the Medical Director of the Trauma and Neurosurgery Program at St. Michael’s Hospital. He is the medical director of the Head Injury Clinic and leads a neuroscience lab aimed at brain injury care. He publishes both laboratory supported research and human clinical research in the area of brain injury and neurocritical care. In December 2015, SMH Foundation awarded Dr. Baker the Spirit of Philanthropy Award, and in May 2016 he was awarded the Trillium Gift of Life Network Lifetime Achievement Award for his contributions to the advancement of organ donation in Ontario and research in donation science. Dr. Baker is also the inaugural winner of the Keenan Legacy Award at the Keenan Research Centre for Biomedical Science at St. Michael’s; awarded to a scientist who exemplifies the mission of the Keenan Research Centre for Biomedical Science— generating new knowledge and translating scientific discoveries to improve patient health. In November Dr. Baker was named the winner of the 2016 Jeffrey C. Lozon Physician Leadership Award, given annually to a St. Michael's physician who has demonstrated outstanding leadership skills and exemplifies the Mission and Values of the hospital.

Wanda Rumsam
Allstate Canada

Wanda is a Litigation Specialist who recently celebrated her 30th year with Allstate Insurance. Since 1990 she has handled Catastrophic claims, working with OMPP, Bill 164 and Bill 59. Wanda recently transferred to the Litigation department and currently handling Catastrophic determination and tort litigation. She initially obtained her certification in social work, but felt that she was better suited as an adjuster as opposed to a social worker. However her transferable skills came in handy for the last 27 years handling catastrophic claims.

Kadey B.J. Schultz, BA, LLB, LLM
Schultz Frost LLP

In 2015, Kadey and a team of lawyers founded Schultz Frost LLP, an innovative law firm that works with insurers and self insured companies to strategically mitigate risk, design for success, and litigate insurance disputes. Kadey has significant arbitration, trial and appeal experience at FSCO, the Superior Court, Divisional Court and Court of Appeal.  She is an adjunct professor at the University of Windsor Faculty of Law, a frequent industry trainer, a winner of the Lexpert Rising Stars Top Lawyers under 40 in Canada award and was recently elected to the Board of The Holland Bloorview Kids Rehab Hospital Foundation. She is an insurance industry enthusiast, enjoying the work that she does, and the people she does it with.  Kadey is particularly grateful for the industry’s support of the annual charity event, Music Heals in support of her son Emery, Holland Bloorview Kids Rehab Hospital, and the fight to end Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.

He has conducted numerous Trials in our Courts, and Arbitrations before The Financial Services Commission of Ontario (FSCO). He has lectured on insurance law at Osgoode Hall Law School.
