Course Description

The ACLS for Healthcare Providers course is designed to teach the skills needed to assess and administer care within the first 10 minutes of an adult ventricular tachycardia or ventricular fibrillation (VT/VF) arrest. Providers learn the skills needed to manage advanced cardiac life support scenarios: respiratory emergency, various types of cardiac arrest (simple VT/VF, complex VT/VF, PEA (Pulseless Electrical Activity) and asystole), pre arrest emergencies: bradycardia, stable tachycardia, unstable tachycardia and acute coronary syndromes and stroke. (Heart and Stroke Canada, 2010).

This course is designed for healthcare professionals who want to know more than just how to perform CPR and other basic life support skills.

 

Course Prerequisites

To be eligible to take the Full ACLS Course, participants must have:

  • Arrhythmia knowledge
  • Assessment skills
  • Current Heart & Stroke Basic Life Saver (BLS) provider card

To be eligible to take the ACLS Recertification Course, participants must have:

  • Arrhythmia knowledge
  • Assessment skills
  • Current Heart & Stroke BLS provider card
  • Current Heart & Stroke ACLS provider card
